I hate "fresh out of college" resumes and samples!

a "designer's" resume made in word using Times New Roman
- rayborn30000
Jfletcher is pretty right on from above .. clean one page that says it all. Check out his website by the way. Good reading. The response from the side comment is correct but that would probably only apply for about 3% of us.
For those that think you can send a resume without portfolio samples .. GOOD LUCK. I usually expect to see a nice clean run of information. Some sample of designs or a link to a website! Website preferred above all else, if you don't know how to throw together a web portfolio then I am expecting about a 90% chance you would be wasting my times with any "skills" you have. Design speaks for itself I don't care what kind of degree you have. The brass of the top 10 fortune 500 companies don't have PHDs.
1 page of white clean sheet to skim with obviously link to online portfolio.
- I am not hiring by the way .. I am JUST SAYING ... only saying that's allrayborn3000
- All true.monospaced
- the "brass" isn't doing so hot lately. but i agree with you 100%svenreed

How does everyone feel on the use of the first person narrative on a resume? Personally I try to avoid it, it seems childish and can easily sound repetitive.

I like resumes that include high school or College jobs like Pizza Hut , Subway etc you can tell a lot about somebody based on their early corporate hospitality affiliations like somebody that worked at McDonalds will pretty much eat shit all day if they have 2
- rayborn30000
It might be an advantage to use 1st person. All the "I's" getting used could get annoying. I this, I that .. best to avoid that for sure.
It's harder to say NO to someone in person so the more personal you make it the better. Get them to connect with you on a more emotional level then just some fictitious character in a story. If I had a video resume sent to me I would probably give it a second over. At least then I could see if the personality would fit in. Personality is a BIG factor 90% of the time for any job.
It might be cool to take the approach as if you are somebody else presenting yourself like an agent. That could lead to some cool concepts.
- Any more thoughts on 1st person resumes? I am thinking it's more or less the awful writing that sinks the ship.rayborn3000

I've trashed under and over designed resumes. Should be simple but clean. my 2 cents.....

Anybody ever look up someones myspace page from their resume?

Diogo Suares, who posted his excellent folio here a little while back has a good example of what a designer/art director's cv should look like. - http://www.diogosoares.com/
Not plain text, but not frilly or over designed either.
- That IS nice.monospaced
- I checked out his pdf ... in the intro he is missing a comma and broke my number 2# - He is a "Team Player!" folks. Good stuff though.rayborn3000

Mis-spelling 'stationery' as 'stationary'.
Also a few times had people mail out their cv/work samples with no attachments. 'Please see attached...' quickly followed by a second email apologising for the fuck-up. FAIL.

gayborn3000, I don't care how high you climb, you are still part of some team and need to communicate and work alongside people.
Not realizing that fact is naivete of someone who has REALLY "never been in a Directors position or ever applied for one"
- rayborn30000
fate_, "team player" is my Faux Pas and NOT YOURS! I can't help it makes me think of a homoerotic steam room full of gym boys .. saying that I think you can be all the "team player" you can be! I am sure you "go above and beyond." It's all played out dawg is what I am saying.
Faux Pas please .... fate_ move along

the words AMBITIOUS and PASSIONATE
other than the type'isms that drive me nuts

Creme paper is an ugly bitch.
- fate_0
rayborn3000, I agree with you. "Team player" as a phrase sucks.
But you should demonstrate you can play nice with others.
"Lead a team of 5 to successfully execute..."
That sort of nonsense.
- No need to be nice now. You are the one that started off dirty.rayborn3000
