An entirely new type of particle has been discovered by scientists using the world’s largest and most powerful particle accelerator, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), near Geneva, Switzerland.
The discovery of the new particle, called “neutral Xi_b^star baryon,” was made by the CMS experiment, one of six separate particle physics experiments running at the LHC.

@Ukit
Check it out. I wrote this article about three months ago. I interviewed the head physicist working on the LHC project when they were just catching glimpses of it.

My latest article delves into the world of scary/cool technology. Bioengineers are beginning to combine our unique biology with computer science by the use of, "electronic tattoos" to monitor our physiology. Medical research is just the beginning; exploration of this new technology has already begun in the fields of defense, sports, security and of course consumer products.

I sent Professor Coleman some follow up questions, here are some of his answers:
- as for personal information: in principle, yes. We are at the very initial stages of exploring this. It brings forth very interesting security questions at the intersection of physiology and computer science. For example, although one might imagine that this brings forth ominous "big brother" challenges, it could also provide unique opportunities to enhance security, by combining the uniqueness of everyone's biology (e.g. heartbeat) with already-existing computer security methods.
- other areas of interest: yes we are exploring defense, sports, security (as mentioned above), as well as consumer products. For defense, we are taking advantage of San Diego's proximity to many agencies associated with the department of defense. For example, we have just initiated a collaboration with the Naval Health Research Center to apply these devices on warfighters and monitor their bodily processes in a manner that is less cumbersome than existing technologies. Analogously, a company that we are partnering with to get this technology in the private sector, MC10, inc, has a contract with Reebok to put this technology on athletes. We are also exploring a variety of mobile phone applications with computer science students that combine the body's physiological processes with other inputs to enrich the user experience in mobile phone applications.

New Department of Defense giant cluster built to test nuclear weapons stockpile breaks HPC speed record. 96 racks, 98,304 compute nodes, 1.6 million cores, 1.6 petabytes of memory across 4,500 square feet and this is just one we know about.
