Yes and it was face to face... I ended up getting in the guys face. Then I told him to go find someone else to do his work. He came back all apologetic and asked that I continue to work on their account.

No f-in way! Ha. You did the right thing. If it were me, I would have fired that client. Sometimes it's best to walk, it's not benefiting you or them.

That is fucking ridiculous.
You handled it very well.

one of my latest wackjob clients owes my web developer $7K for her website (+ 1.5 years maintenance, a custom shopping cart etc.). she left me a message stating that if the developer doesn't want to arrange a payment plan (which was set up, but he was never paid), then she will call my other clients and tell them 'what an irresponsible designer' i am.
one of my best friends is a corporate attorney. he made a phone call. wackjob client quickly apologized. then i fired her as a client.
- why does she know how to contact your clientsESPtype

If we're getting onto related experiences now... I was once instructed to put a photograph of each of five band member's mothers on the back of a CD single. A CD single is 120mm square approximately so each of the 5 images could only be a couple of centimetres in diameter maximum, and that's with all the essential text and logo stuff partially going over the top of them. After sending a visual for sign off I was told not to overlap anything on the photographs and to make each photograph "at least 5 times bigger". I tried very hard to explain why I couldn't do this but I failed to pursuade the record label executive.
I had a very interesting conversation by telephone later that day with the label's band person and the upshot was that I was told I had to make each of the photographs "at least 10cm square" with no overlaps. To drive her instructions home she shouted them down the phone at me on a joint conference call with the band and the band's management. She explained to everyone on the call that she had resorted to getting us all on a conference call so that the band could witness for themselves that it was me being deliberately obstructive and not her.
I then told her I would do exactly what she said and I wouldn't charge her for it, but she would have to draw all five 10cm boxes in pencil on a template so I could see exactly where she wanted them. She shouted that this is exactly what she would do and it spoke volumes about me and my capabilities that she was now having to design the sleeve art herself on pieces of paper. She really shouted me out and slammed the phone down.
I never got that design from her though, I just got an email from an assistant an hour or so later, asking me to take the photographs off the sleeve art and to lay it out like all the previous singles.

I've seen all sorts of childish rants from clients.
I kept one client waiting for 2 minutes and he got back in his car to leave... I ran out to apologise and explained that I was on a very important phone call, and that I had instructed reception to explain this to him... he replied 'yeah..... well you can all go and get fucked!!' and then did a burnout in his X-5 in the driveway and took off. Two weeks earlier the guy had offered me a job. Glad I didn't take that one.
In another meeting I was having with a client, he wasn't really paying much attention to me while I was talking, he was doing something frustrating on the computer, suddenly he picked up his wireless mouse threw it into the screen, then knocked the screen on the floor and started kicking it. I just sat there like a... a... completely puzzled person watching a madman... it was bizarre.
So the moral to the story is, some people are just fuckin' wankers, you don't need them, so you're best off disposing of them as quickly and silently as possible. If you're disgusted by this behaviour you're most likely better than that...
- My god the second guy sounds like a psycho, what did he do after that punch the receptionist?HomeCreative
