Curious how otherwise minor bumps can have such catastrophic consequences. Pretty shitty deal.

"...someone hits their head and they are seemingly OK initially...but then they get a rapid collection of blood — usually called epidural hemorrhage — and that means bleeding between the skull and the brain.”

My deepest sympathies to her family, as they struggle through this tragedy.

i've noticed just in the last couple seasons that the % of helmets on the slopes around here (pacific north west) is consistently starting to outnumber those without.
good to see. i grew-up on mountains in the 80/90s when a helmet was nowhere to be seen. really is crazy when you think about it, compare to mtn biking etc.
although will admit is still prefer to ride without.
what's it like back east...?

I saw her mother in "The Year of Magical Thinking" http://www.dublintheatrefestival…
The play was a very emotional monodrama, a woman's memoir about the loss of her husband and child. It is very sad and strange she got assigned that role in her real life.

"...was not wearing a helmet when she had what first appeared to be a minor accident."
- juhls0
I didn't see many people wearing helmets last time I snowboarded :/
- fooler20
I honestly have never heard of her before yesterday, I'm a fan of her husbands work though.
I wonder how often freak accidents like this happen, sure people break a bone or get a concussion but DEATH on the bunny hill???
I've been wearing a helmet for the past 6 or 7 years. I don't do crazy jumps, I stay out of the park, and do a few very small cliffs and some people still call me a puss for wearing it. It actually is more to keep my head warm and dry then to protect me from a bump.

it's sad and yet it's amazing – I've never ever heard of her either yet she's making the papers around the world like she was princess diana... you'd think there would more important things like Sudan and Iraq, but I guess everyone is enthralled with weird ski deaths...
- boobs0
I think people were enthralled with her. She was a very talented and beautiful women, from a famous family.
- sorry, "enthralled" was used in the previous post. Your opinion is invalid.iCanHazQBN

I had never heard of her before this.
- she's a nobody really. her mom was famous, but this is just a ploy by MSM to get the Fed Reserve out of the newsrobotron3k
