For some reason, my Homesite 5 is spacking out, whilst I'm going to try and fix it, I wonder if there are any contemporary alternatives? I mean, I've had this shit for going on 7 years now!
There have been a few 'which editor?' threads previously, but they seem to be Mac orientated or a bit lightweight.
Any suggestions?
PC only please, in case you missed it!
Thanks!

(I wish I had a Mac so I could try that Coda thing - that looks interesting!)

I already use N++ for basic stuff, but want something more comprehensive, with a fulsome interface - not stripped down.
An MS product? Really? Is it any good? I shudder to think after being exposed to Frontpage a while back.
What about DW for coding? I hadn't really considered just ignoring the WYSIWYG aspect and all the plugins and fluff.

Daytime EuBump - Komodo was looking good last night - lots of personalisation to do though, and perhaps still some basic features missing (can't see a colour wheel selector, for instance - not that that's critical, just an indicator of the level of widgetry I'm hoping for).
Any further suggestions?

No one? Is everyone outside? Even the coders amongst you?
Ye gads.

I would also recommend E. I've tried them all, and that really is the most lightweight, fully functional editor I've ever used.
Previously I was using Aptana, and then Netbeans.

http://www.netbeans.org/Netbeans being the better of the two I reckon, but they're still both Java monsters and a bit sloooooooow.

On a mac now though, and using TextMate which is exactly the same as E. Shame about the piece of shit operating system that it runs on though.

I second or third e-texteditor.

That Aptana looks quite good - bear in mind that my focus is web and PHP mangling, and I'm not a shit-hot coder, so I still appreciate prompts, widgets, code shortcuts and other legs'up - so I'd appreciate something 'heavyweight' - I just don't need to go as far as Dreamweaver, is all. Thanks, Moth.

I love Homesite and thought, as an editor, it was superior to Dreamweaver. I never felt I had adequate control over the precision of measurements, and components using 'design view' so I just use code. I became faster writing than I could layout visually.
It was the main bummer when I moved from PC to Mac.I can't offer any advice Nairn, just letting you know I feel your pain.
- thanks! :) It's crazy - I dance around this bush annually, and haven't seen anything in years to compare to HS.Nairn

Check out the PHP bundles for E mate. Honestly - I think you're missing out if you don't give it another look.
