This is a really great thread and I don't give it enough time. I was an architecture major for 2 1/2 years before getting really frustrated and switching majors to Advertising. Didn't like the math much. I ended up with a minor in Architecture, for whatever that's worth!
I often wish I had worked harder at it and lately have started drawing more. There's something so much more interesting about drawing and imagining something that could be a built structure than there is about other interests like writing music, taking pictures, regular art, etc.

Don't regret it. I've got two degrees in architecture and realized half way through grad school that the profession is not like what you imagine, even coming from top schools.
I left and started my own company (3D/web/graphics) and do a little architecture/re development on the side. No regrets or second thoughts.

I'm sure you're right formed. I admit, it's so easy to look at exceptional architecture and think "I could do that, I see things like that in my head all the time." But it's likely the same kind of reality as it is for me as a musician who's constantly dreamed about hitting it big with music - a total slim-to-none chance that comes down as much to luck as it does talent.
As long as I can design my own house someday, work with an architect to design and build something for myself, I'll be satisfied. :) That's kind of why I've gotten back into sketching and drawing. I really loved that in college, building models as well.
It's funny, I think so often to myself - there's got to be a way to be an architect without being an architect. LOL - I'm sure you know what I mean.
