I'm happy with 12 year old Glenlivet. Cant afford to drink the fancy stuff as I get through it too quick.

The best I've had was in a scotch flight at a restaurant in the winter. It was Edradour 11 or 12 year Rum cask finish. OMG. Completely amazing. Smelled like liquid smoke, very heavy smoky earthy scent, and had a sweet banana flavor at the end. I've tried to find it in town and it runs about $95 a bottle, just have not picked any up yet.

- Got a killer deal on two bottles of 1/4 Cask strength Laphroig last year. Hallucinated after 2nd glass.harlequino
- this is so smoky and peaty I can only take 3 glasses before I have to switch to something mellowerflashbender
- I like it peatyMal

^ I second the a'bunadh, harlequino. Best Scotch I've ever tasted. Dalwhinnie is a good one too. Ever had the Dalmore 12? Goes great with a cigar or pipe.
On a related note, who does the packaging for these whisky brands? Is it all done in the UK? I'd throttle the Queen to have a chance at designing a whisky bottle & package.
- I recall the Dalmore as being great, but I associate it with food poisening I got at the same time.harlequino
- So I just tend to avoid it unfortunately.harlequino
- heh, yeah food poisoning is awful. I had it a couple weeks ago. Lost 7 lbs in 36 hours.Scotch_Roman

- See, I've had that and wasn't fond. It tasted like an old leather belt to me.Scotch_Roman
- Maybe I just had the wrong vintage.Scotch_Roman
- The vermouth wasn't crazy about, but I did like the sherry one.harlequino
- I'll admit it's on the gimmicky side. But I've turned some non-scotch folk into scotch folk using it.harlequino
