I'm undecided.
I only buy the standard one day a week, mainly due to his column on Wednesday.
However, why he feels the need to use such obscure words is beyond me - does he feel the need to make us all feel stupid?
Generally though - I find myself agreeing with him.

read "my idea of fun". awesome. he does use massive verbage but it generally feels (to me anyways) that he just loves the language. i usually have a thesaurus handy when i read his books.
i'm starting the 'book of dave' tonight funnily enough!

Catch a reading live if you can, he's awesome. You'll really see/hear how he controls the cadence and flow with his vocabulary. Funny as hell to.

I've read 'the butt' 'sweet smell of psychosis' and am currently reading 'the liver'. Got the book of dave on standby. I think he's great, little observations and cynical digs, underwhelmed with modern life, the same character traits and themes pop up in his stuff but his use of language is great, I'd much rather be challenged with his use of vocabulary than reading some dumbed down pap.

I'm not as well read on Will Self as Martin Amis, but I can imagine they're cut from the same cloth. Not only is their commentary on London identical but their sense of doom or apocolyopse is ever present (in the books I've read)

I've not read any Amis. Any recommendations on a good one to start with?

I started with Rachel papers, but Money and Dead babies are better.
Times Arrow is brilliant - although I wouldn't start with this.

I never knew Dead Babies was made in to a film - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0218… - obviouosly not a roaring success.
After reading it, I had this fantasy (and perhaps still do) to have a weekend of total debaurchery, in a country mansion, with sex, drugs and uninhibited tom-foolery!
A little too old and certainbly not connected well enough for such an affair though
- Ah I've seen it, years back, I seem to remember it wasn't that good though. Too many similar films out at the time.Ranger

he mentioned this in last wednesday's Evening standard column - it's not him, but someone pretending to be him.
But he did say he was flattered that someone would want to tweet for him
