1600 ISO / Low-Light

The point of this is to set your camera's ISO to the highest possible setting, then shoot something mundane in low-lighting -- if there is a good amount of light, set your shutter speed lower (quicker) to ensure the photograph is captured with below-average settings. (You want as much grain and distortion as possible.)
Once your photograph has been snapped, throw it in Photoshop, boost your levels, convert to LAB, snag the "lightness" channel (Select All > Copy), create a new file, paste, then save.

I shot this on saturday on 1600
I didn't used photoshop, just made saturation 0 and played a bit w levels.

adjusting levels in lab is really no different than adjusting level in rgb...
in LAB luminosity isn't tied to saturation... that's the only difference

I shoot in really low light all the time, I hate the way frontal flash looks in dark settings, and its very few times I get sharp photos.
Sometimes I wonder if its just me that sucks or its time for me to move up one camera level.
I must admit, I only take photos as a hobby and I dont know how to use my camera 100%

and yes, I usually make my darks a bit blue or red, otherwise it looks empty to meMeeklo - I told him to crank up his brightness on the laptop so I would get bounce on his faceMeeklo
- but this is 1 in 1000s.. they usually come out blurry, I still depend a lot on luck! hahaMeeklo

I'm shooting my screens if I use flash I wash them out, so maybe a external flash would be more in my interest, something I can point on the side and flag so it doesn't bounce on my screens, not sure how that would work though...
any recommendations?
bare in mind its only my hobby, and my camera is a canon 300d which is probably the most basic slr camera on the market. so I can't spend that much.- http://www.bhphotovi…version3
