I'm no fan boy, but I was impressed by these two articles I caught over at The Register.
Old news to owners, of course - but I found this review of the new Mac Pro thing quite illuminating from the perspective of the interior build. I wish they made PCs like this!

Also, Apple have two patent filings on sound-reduction schemes, one involving the creation of sound profiles, for use in different environments. Simple, when you think about it.

fuck that's sexy. for a while I was leaning towards a mbp but it seems like those went down the shitter so now it's back to Macpro fantasies

Apple's advantage for years has been noticing and addressing the obvious.
I could never understand why it was impossible to buy a good looking PC case. There is a million cases out there, some fancy, none good looking. Same for laptops. Or phones.- You should take a look at Lian-Li, Silverstone or Shuttle. They make some pretty bad ass cases.zarkonite

I must admit raf, you're the only person who I've heard go on about the Mac who's made me question why I've been a wintard for so long. Your descriptions to moth of all the hacking you can do with it reminded me of my old days as an Amiga head.
Macs are the Amiga's spiritual successor (regardless of their predation, naturally) - I've been lying to myself for years.

Thing I didn't realise 'til this article (perhaps it was from the comments section) is that you can swap the GPU card in Mac Pros.
It's the generally lacklustre GPU, lack of upgrade options and, what I perceive as, dearness that's always put me off Macs.
If they're upgradable and Bootcampable, well... *saves up to defect*

Comforting to know there's always the genius/mac salesman career out there waiting for me!

Checking out suggested competitors.
Lian-Li:
Most of these are generic, some Apple rip-offs. That one is nice actually:
Shuttle:
^ a toaster?
Silverstone:
Mac inspired, but nice:
That one's slick:
That thing isn't:All of these brands are very inconsistent, they do have their highs but all of them keep releasing crap.

I'm using one of the earlier generation LianLi cases, which was as refined as could be at the time, and my intended upgrade path includes the plain black case you like.
Problem is - these are mere external cosmetic details. The interior is the same 4 year old mess of products competing with airflow - they've still got numerous cables, they've not got quick release this or easy install that. There's little to no overview in the chassis design process.
- 4 year old mess = 20 year old,
I have no idea how that mistake could happen.Nairn

raf is also very nice when it comes to encouragement. I still remember when he gave me some props for switching up my hard drive. *sniff*

raf, are you a programmer? I always wondered. You seem to know quite a bit about the ins and outs of Apple-related items.
- Jack of it all actually, mostly front end www. Calling myself a programmer would be pushing it too far though.. :)raf
- haha. Well, I'm a front-ender too (that sounds weird), but I'm sure you know more than me. So I bet you're verging on programmingjuhls
- Or at least someone who knows their shit :)juhls
