I said 2 hours, I bugged him about doing it quickly and efficiently in that time, and he still argues every single step of the project. Ultimately since he triples the time and you add my time prepping the files for him, arguing with him, and reviewing the project we are 9 hours into a 2 hour project.
Damn! Has no one ever slapped him before? I'm about ready to kick his teeth in. He can't take constructive criticism, can't take a joke, and gives you a fking encyclopedic answer to everything you tell him to do.then you add the time to post this...geez...

we call these people art stars
- johnnyklebitz0
around here he's called a 'perfectionist'.
- uberdesigner0
why aren't you an AD
- hargbine0
yeah, everyso often he pulls a CSI:
"well, the perspective line is drawn from here, and the other follows this line of cars parked here, so the horizon line would be drawn here. This line is not entirely perpendicular because most roads have drainage off to the sides, so the road isn't completely flat..."um, just photoshop the sign in. Do it in 2 hours.

hey uber,
funny thing...my wife is...
we've got the same number of years of experience, I just hate the paperwork side of it all.

Do it better, fire his ass, hire someone nice.
- ..or some one more, you know, breasty.TheBIueOne
- I thought that's what nice meant?zarkonite
- mmm, low v-neck breasty...hargbine

Is your request unreasonable? Are you asking him to do something that is flat out fucking stupid? Some designers actually take pride in the quality of their work and so "just fucking do it in 2 hours" doesn't mesh with quality work. You're just making it sound like he wants to do it right. If you don't like that, do it yourself.
- hargbine0
well put itsmitch...took that into account when I gave him the project, and gave him the props and respect he may deserve, but after the 6th hour of explanations it gets a bit tedious.
I would've done it myself...in 2 hours, but he doesn't have any other work b/c no one wants to work with him.

If that's really the case, I wouldn't send him work. Your reputation is on the line when you farm stuff out. If you really want to help him then send him a good book on business practices.
- hargbine0
anyway, all in all it's good. It's Friday and 2nd Street Brewery awaits...
thx for the laughs!

maybe the guy is stupid in general? feed him some brain food
- uberdesigner0
just tell your boss that you're acting as an art director and that you need the title and cash to go along with it
- uberdesigner0
usually fighting over technical crap gets beaten out of you during your first job.
- haha, yep. that thought has come up sooo many times.hargbine
- he's got something like 12-15 years, same as I, and no one can figure out how he's so arroganthargbine
- well, he did work in-house at architecture firms in the past. Maybe they are different from general design firms.RustyStew
- ah man, a beat down would be so funny to see—especially over technical issues...lolhargbine
- architectural firms have longer project lifespans so that's probably the caseuberdesigner
- yep, I'm sure that has a lot to do with it. we've tried everywhich way around the sun to tell him about the shorter timespans...hargbine
- uber, that is the most legit, thoughtful thing ive ever read from you. more that, less dick threads! :Dbaseline_shift

Perhaps we should have a meeting on the angle of the roadside. That would only take a couple hours I'm sure, but then we could make it right. 1 degree of angle is important if we are guessing scale based on a dude standing next to things.

we laid off everyone that acted like that. We called it our buffer zone for when we had to downsize (we all knew it was coming)
- Josev0
There are two sides to every story. Give us more details.
What are you asking him to do?
- hargbine0
ur right Josev, but the short answer is that he always thinks his way is better regardless of the budget, or deadlines involved. Then gives you a hundred reasons why you should do it his way as if you're even arguing about quality or technique.
