is it better now?

it's been degrading a lot over the past months, specially the hookers issue, people are demanding that city legalizes brothels because in the streets they are everywhere and cause all kinds of problems.
Also the robberies, but that's easily avoidable if you are just careful and keep an eye on your shit. Also don't buy anything anyone offers you near the ramblas unless it's a can of beer.

The first time I was in Barcelona (two years ago), I didn't have any problems. Walking down La Ramblas very late at night can be pretty interesting, but I was with a couple of buddies. People try to sell you cheap beer and drugs, ugly Moroccan hookers try to grab you by the arm.
The second time I went, my friend had her purse stolen on the train station. The purse contained 3 of my friends' passports and an iPhone. They were barely able to get new travel documents and not miss thier flights. The next day, I saw two girls get their purse snatched by a couple of teenagers by the beach. One guy distracted, while the other steals.
- That sounds rough... The police sucks there, needs more Charles Bronsonraf

Bad experience Milan?
I actually saw a woman getting robbed, or people reporting robbery to the police. Just be vigilant, try not to pull out the wallet on the street (good to have some change in your pocket), keep your camera locked or wrapped tightly to your wrist.
Don't get too paranoid though, this might ruin your stay...
These rules apply to anywhere, not only BCN of course.

protips:
1. stay away from the ramblas (go in the day and walk them and you've seen enough)
2. don't buy a mexican hat, mexico != barcelona

I'm glad you liked Jai-ca de4k! Funny how there are no menus with prices to be read, but they don't rip you off. We had different bills for the same stuff on different days, but never anything high.
Their food is great: "fried stuff, mostly seafood", but it really works.I am actually going there in a week, hope to finally go to Xampanyet paraselene keeps recommending for years. I know where it is, passed by it a few times. I couldn't find Cafe Universal in Boqueria last time though.
- Yeah I just went in and pointed at things inside, random fried stuff, awesome.de4k
