can't see any point in this, iPhone/iPod Touch are pretty much perfect for couch web browsing
- that is, if you dont have a computerMeeklo
- an iPhone isn't quite robust enough, and still has a screen smaller than a GameBoy.monospaced
- well.. it is a phone after allMeeklo
- exactly, and that's why I think the tablet will be well received.monospaced

I, for one, think the product is long overdue and will be very welcome.

If it doesn't have a keyboard then I'm not sure how sold I'll be...
For couch surfing, Acer netbooks are about 300 bucks (and run decent!). I'll take one of those! I think I might just buy one for travel.

support flash?

It'll have a keyboard as much as the iPhone does. It'll also have a more beautiful screen and a streamlined mobile OS with tens of thousands of Apps ready to go. Of course developers will come out with a ton of shit for it right away too.
An Acer netbook runs a traditional OS, and if you read the article you'll see the pitfalls in that. Apple's tablet will fill a niche, for sure.

Chances are, since it's Apple, it will be a much more sophisticated device than anything made by Acer/Dell/HP/ or the rest of those Wintel people.
Chances are if they make it, you'll want one, or vehemently deny that you want one, while secretly longing for it.

I was considering something like a Kindle, I was also considering buying an iPhone for all those wonderful Apps. I just don't want all those devices on me at the same time. IF this tablet is released, it would replace both (for me, that is). I'll naively assume I'm not alone.
- You're not. We were talking about this in one of my classes, and the concensus was YAY!bump79

I'm not too sure boobs, I think this market could finally take some of the shiney-ness off computer products. This market requires something tough, durable and most of all cheap. If it breaks, buy a new one mentality. A lot of the new intel (Wintel) machines now run Mac os (to a lesser or greater degree).
Don't get me wrong, I get the appeal of the apple brand, but the thought of having a £800 or so ipad loose in my rucksack...
This machine would be a second computer (the main one either at home or work) and one which I wouldn't be too precious about.
- It's not really just a shiny small computer and the Apple brand. It really is a long-awaited product (hopefully) done rightmonospaced

I think you're missing the point. This would not be a second computer in the same sense. It would have a 100% touch-screen and motion-based interface and will cater to a mobile application set. It wasn't really viable until we saw the advent and success of the App store, and now it has a place
Of course if you want a full-blown computer on the go, you can get a tiny cheap laptop, but they're not really that tiny or that useful on-the-go if you're always looking for Wi-Fi and dealing with standard OS hiccups and desktop interfaces.

Obviously, the guys at apple are thinking further ahead than me...
They have to be careful, they don't miss the boat though.

I'm confused, how does this replace the iPhone?
- monospaced0
bump79:
It's not a phone. It's somewhere between the iPod touch and a laptop. It's a whole new kind of thing.stem:
They did try this with the Newton many years ago, but missed the boat because they were early. Other PC companies, including Microsoft, have been working on this. The boat has docked and it's time to board, especially with wireless network speeds on the rise and mobile applications becoming standard.
- bump790
It's a larger version of the touch, with a few more applications. It sounds like something people will jump on!
- you're answering your own question? cool trickmonospaced
- I tend to think out loud, was your comment meant to be rude?bump79
- no, not rude at allmonospaced

Imagine something like the iPod Touch but slightly bigger, and with 2 screens that open from a clamshell case, hinged along the long edge, like a DS...
That would let the bottom screen function as a large touchpad or keyboard, without getting in the way of the main content on the top screen... or you could flow long websites over both of them... hmmm...
- I don't imagine a clamshell design. I believe it will be a one-piece design, with a sleeve/screen-protec... or something.monospaced

I'd buy it. It'd be nice to have something smaller than a laptop where I could access the internet, play media, check email and shit without having to try and squint. Iphones are too small to be doing that leisurely, especially the screen keyboard for baby fingers. Laptops are a bit too bulky for something that could lay on the coffee table, even those small acer ones.

Looks like we'll have to wait and see what it is, how big it is, how it works, and what it does.

iphone is better than any other mobile for web browsing but still is pish.
