SF is probably a lot more expensive than Glasgow, I'd imagine. I'm not an expert here, but I'd imagine as a design director, you could reasonably ask for $100,000.
- cost of living out here is way below that of London, and probably on a par with Glasgow.skt
- aye i thought that for chap talk - 85k wuld be ok tbfmistermik
- thats loads for a welsh lad.mistermik
- I'm in the mid-west. Earning 1.75 times what I was in Edinburgh, but much worse off.5timuli

Be prepared to spend 3-5 years building credit and being considered a nobody. Credit is used for EVERYTHING now. Getting an apartment? Credit check. Applying for a job? Credit check. Connecting utilities at your apartment? Credit check. And make sure you make enough money to afford decent healthcare/dental.
My overall opinion so far is that quality of life is actually higher in the UK than it is here. Americans work too hard and don't take enough time off. 10 days/year, 40hr week is standard (I miss the 37.5hr week, 28 days holiday of the UK).
- When you consider hidden expenses in everything in the USA, it's generally more expensive than the UK average.5timuli

But, erm, I'd go for it. It's worth it for the experience and I'm sure for some it'll be easier than for others. I'm still happy I came here, but if things don't improve in a few years I'll have to seriously consider my options.

i looked at corofl0t.c0m salary survey as creative / design director
said the avg. in california is 120k.but most agencies has lower their prices so it might be closer to 100k now.

5timul, good chap.
85-100k - to much or too little? wasnt sure on your note.
- I'm earning half of the figure between those two amounts. Mid-west, 11yrs experience. Guess I'm just unlucky. Or stupid.5timuli
- But according to bestplaces.net, SF is 150% more expensive to live in than Indy and my salary should increase to $115k.5timuli

you should ask for air, hotel, seamstress, relocate, 120k and dance lessons minimum.
And not to forget thermographized business card in Copperplate Gothic.
