i don't think the industrial design was done in house. I am pretty sure Astro Studios in SF did this.
- they did the xbox 360 toouberdesigner

The Zune itself isn't bad, but the software for the last Zune, ie to manage and add your songs, was one of the most unbelievably horrible pieces of crap in terms of usability etc. released by a major company. I'm amazed it slipped through quality control.

I own a Zune, and it blows away every iPod I've ever owned. I love the fucking thing.
That said: Screws are weird, but at least has a functional reason. The icons are retarded and serve no purpose. The original Zune UI was very type-driven and really lovely. If you check the UI video on Gizmodo, navigating around is still a joy -- I just think they need to step backwards to the less-is-more style from before.
(Maybe there's an option to turn off icons?)
- tried one since the click wheel was done away with?rusty_ace

The only "iPod" Kult has owned was probably a Sansa

microsoft is again showing its horrible management of its brand design.

it makes more sense when you see it... but it's still a shit interface;

I agree on the interface, but I actually think the product looks nice. It's a product doomed to fail because of MS context. Really lacks some groundbreaking ideas in the UI though, WTF is it so difficult for them to come up with something decent?
