the question is what does it offer beyond the current Chrome browser?
I like the fact that they are rethinking it from the ground up, which MSFT doesn't seem to be able to do.
the lower barrier to entry for creating web apps vs desktop will hopefully mean more competition instead of being locked into the default solutions.

Just to clarify, this is bare bones Linux-based OS. It's going to be more of a web browser with extra web-based software then it is a full blown operating system.
The focus is on those tiny netbooks, not regular laptops or desktop computers.

good idea on paper, but there will be SO many compatability issues if you try use anything other than outlook and chrome.
