...which one would you buy?
I'm considering buying a PC, primarily for a PC game (Cities XL), but also for work (I do software app UI design and all the apps I design are PC-based), and I wanted to get some high-quality feedback before sinking some money into a big turd. What thinkest thou?

64 bit OS, i7 processor, 6gb RAM.
Take it from there.
- good luck with the 64 bit OS that will let you play games...d_rek
- Really? Oops, then, scratch that and the 6gb of ram. 3gb it is.Nairn
- Having looked into this - are you sure, d_rek? all the games I used to play are compatible?Nairn
- most PC games are 32-bit apps.. I could be wrong.. historically it has always been improbable (not impossible)d_rek
- I think, perhaps, this might've been the case a few years back but no longer.Nairn
- after some quick research... apparently this is no longer an issue... game away @ 64-bits!!d_rek
- @Nairn, indeed.. I have not been an avid pc gamer for a few years.. funny how much it's changed in such little time!d_rek
- But i will admonish my startling addiction to Counter-Strike: Source during my college years...d_rek

Parallels would be cheaper.
- Yeah, but the graphics hardware would still be lacking (?)juhls

Hey Mondo...
Go with what Nairn said (wow Nairn, we actually agree on something)
I just built:
Core i7 Quad Core
6GB DDR 3
Nvidia GTX 260
Asus P6TI can give you more details if you like, but since you are looking to buy and not build, just make sure you go with a nice quad core i7 processor, at least 6GB of RAM (it's cheap these days!) and a top shelf motherboard...like and Asus, DFI, Gigabyte...etc. The video card is also obviously imperative so go with a GTX 260 or something higher (currently this will play any game with ease )
Also about the 64-bit OS, you need to go 64-bit if you want to use over 4GB of RAM. So go with Vista 64 for now....and yes this will run almost all games except maybe really old stuff ( I am a pretty big gamer). I have been running Vista 64 for some time and it works well if you have a fast machine.
If you have any other question, feel free to ask.

get a decent box from ebuyer and upgrade the ram storage and gfx card

You can run the Windows 7 release candidate for free until next June I believe. I'm currently running the 64 bit version at home. Faster than Vista x64 was in my experience.

I just recently had a custom build by Puget Systems (http://www.pugetsystems.com/)
It went fucking amazing. Absolutely wonderful instant support as well. Specs:
Motherboard: Asus P6T Deluxe V2
CPU: Intel Core i7 QUAD CORE 920 2.66GHz
Ram: 3 x Kingston ValueRAM DDR3-1333 2048MB
Video Card: XFX GeForce GTX 260 core 216 896MBVery affordable, and runs Vista like a dream. I'm going to upgrade to Windows 7 as soon as it launches.
I multitask Photoshop (4 gig PSDs), Illustrator, Cinema4D (while rendering) and several other apps without a single hiccup.

Q6600 whitebox with RAM and a nice graphics card should run you $700-950, run Win 7 RC on it.... Since intel just changed the naming syntax on their quad-core processors, you may be able to get a Q6600 cheap too....
