Carson was a genius at post-rationalising all the crap he made with a bag of weed and a 70's photocopier.

Josh has recruited a cute girl these days from ZSO

Joshua Davis has a pretty awesome minecraft server. Deadmau5 often plays on it too.

has been.. living off his old fame when he made stuff in Flash.. not sure how anyone can take him seriously anymore.. he hasn't produced commercial work in years.. there's a gazillion people who can do stuff he does..
But then again, most of the web stuff today and so called "design" is shit anyways thanks to "amazing" HTML5 that makes every site look the same and overblown sliders and scrollers and so on and is breeding ground for hack JS script kiddies to call themselves "developers". The whole industry has become a joke.

I was a fan of sorts back in the day (never a 'fan' of his design, but certainly respect for the boundaries he pushed in the beginning).
I agree, web design has become stagnant with the demise of Flash. I miss the days of looking at beautiful work that pushed technology and design, only for the sake of creating something engaging and captivating.

his generative stuff is a little weak sometimes and does look like screensavers - has a low-art air about it really. He was a great innovator in his day but looks a little tired now. And lets face it he is the epitomy of the US 'raaaad man' web designer stereotype - "where's the web designers? Snowboarding man". He helped to create this stereotype. There are many different types of designers and the 'raaaaaad man' loud US type never really floats my boat.
I do like hsi early stuff and hugley influential and I bet he's a nice enough chap - just his greatest work may have already been done.

Fuck sake QBN, read the entire first page before noticing the date.
You had me excited that Joshua Davis had actually done something interesting for the first time in 6 years

At Flash Forward 2001 in NY he admitted to putting red food coloring in his eyes just to see what it would do. Said it hurt like hell but did indeed tint his vision red for a while.
- Oh - meant to say I always wanted to try that. I got to meet him to buy the PS hard drive. Inspiring guy back then for sure.mg33

All-in-all his shit is dope, his skillz are tight and he was/is a god to a lot of flash/designers and programmer. For me anyway being a student back in 1998 he was the guy I we all looked up to. It is good to see him leave the digital realm for a more craft interpretation of his flash background.
Don't hate on a guy in the same industry as you...ever. Especially hating on an innovator of the industry. This guy is the reason a lot of people are where they are today.
I remember when Josh used to post here.

- I agree, I took his classes and had lot of conversations with him about art and clients. He's a stand-up guy and follows no one creating art for those respect his style.jbranda
- <<<this this this I always found him to be a gent and a scholar, and enjoyed his posts and banter on here. Fools be trippinmikotondria3

Think most of us are hating on him because he was a great innovator once, But he's just been doing the same dull stuff for years now.
Theres far more interesting people in the creative coding/design community now

This thread is irrelevant.

This video is pretty cool and brings me to a good point: every single one of you would LOVE to support your life with your main talent. Not work in an office. Not be at the mercy of an employer. Be able to be artistic, have people appreciate your work. You'd kill for it.
I'm with 74LEO - he's always been an inspiring person, always seems pretty down to earth with what you see on the web. I got into Flash in 1999/2000 when he was one of a few guys really inspiring people to do cool stuff. Him, Presstube, VolumeOne, Eric Natzke, Yugop, all the people who were in New Masters of Flash in 2000.
I just cannot rationalize hating on someone because of success that they worked hard to achieve by working hard, finding new ways of doing things, staying inspired.

He's still alive ... latest vid:
- see folks, people WILL buy tacky design if you package it nicely.robotron3k
