I remember the first time I ever heard of him.
It was the early 80's and I was playing the vinyl version Van Halen's Diver Down I got from the Columbia Record Club for 1¢ as loud as possible. My dad busts through my bedroom door and screams "What the hell are you listening too!?" I tried to explain to him I was listening to the greatest guitarist in the world and that Eddie Van Halen invented this style of playing.
That's when my dad had to sit me down and give me a history lesson of Rock n Roll. He told me about a guy named Les Paul that could make his guitar talk and sing and even made his own guitars. He played me some of his music but I was not impressed at the time but looking back I remember that day fondly.

I had the pleasure of seeing him at Iridium in NY in 1996 on his 80th birthday. The place was so small that everyone got to shake hands with him after the show and wish him a happy birthday. Scotty Moore (Elvis Presley's guitarist) and Roger McGuinn were there too.
He was a great musician, inventor of many musical gizmos and a very interesting man who was passionate about music his whole life.

Wow. Incredible life story.
In 1948, Paul nearly lost his life to a devastating car crash that shattered his right arm and elbow. Still, he convinced doctors to set his broken arm in the guitar-picking and cradling position.

May he reincarnate and do his magic in next life.
God blessed his soul.

I played The Pixies Veloria (the only song I can kind play) over and over and over on my Gibson LP Studio last night.
My wife finally got sick of hearing it and told me to put on some headphones.
