Is there an easier way to rip a couple photos from a flash slide show and/or find their original source other than the one posted at this link?

ahh yes the activity window - that helps although it still takes a long time to weed out the actual pictures you are trying to locate, but thanks.

Well people put their stuff in flash most of the time so you can not rip them off ;)

^ This is a true statement and applies most of the time. But, let's say that a person didn't care if you saved their pictures and just happened to build a flash site with slideshow then finding the image locations and saving the pics then wouldn't matter.
Or what if you don't intend to save them to your computer, but just share them in the pic of the day thread for all the peoples to admire. Then everyone could see the image and you haven't taken anything. This option is the best of both worlds, but I agree with you that most of the time it is for protection.
I would never recommend anyone to participate in such activities, but as for me...

I've always used sothink-firefox plugin to get the .swf and then just decompile it—find out where the .xml file sits (if they're using one) and directly access those items.
It's a bit convoluted but it works, most of the time.

If it's not embedded you could always use a packet sniffer and find the external jpg links.
