13"is chepaer but been recommended that a refurbished amchine is much cheaper...
also is it cheaper to buy the 2gb version and upgrade the ram to 4gb on the fly.. i have a friend who will do it for nothing....

if it is a tool, buy it cracked out to begin with, its all a write off either way and the better the set up the more efficient the work. i never really felt that way until i read a book about photography and software and the time spent saving/opening/exporting files aggregated over time can literally wastes hours of efficiency/productivity in comparison to more up to date equipment.

Refurb is the way to go:

You can get a 15.4 for the price of a new 13.3What is it for? If for design work, I'd advise against 13.3 and glossy screen but everyone's preferences might vary..
New 15.4's come in matte now btw for €50 extra.

spewin' I got a glossy 15", would have paid for the matt screen if it was an option

I have a 17" matte - 4 gigs RAM and it is awesome. Edit video, After Effects, big PS files all no problem. Best home computer I've ever had.

i'm buying a new one in a few weeks - lighting fried my old dinosaur last night, so it's time. i'm def. going refurb, but am going to look into EDU discount to see which would be a better deal (i work at a university, so i'm lucky that's available) - Adding all the RAM i can too. I love my work 17" MBP, so i'll probably go that route for my personal machine too.

mmm I have a 17'' MBP Intel chip thing. Came with 2 gb of ram, upgraded to 4 - I really haven't noticed the difference.
I know that Ram is working and the profiler identifies the 4gb. Weird huh?
- I have. Why don't you install iStat Menus? They tell you how much RAM is in use http://farm4.static.…raf

I have a 13.3" glossy macbook. The size, body, keyboard and internal hardware are all good. The screen is shit - the resolution is too small to do any real work and I can't stand the shine. I'm getting a matte 15.4" soon.
The mattes should hit the refurb store in a month or two anyway.
