On Master pages, I've got my page number folios set up on the left-hand pages only, like so:
1 | 2
My problem is that I can't seem to find a way to keep them in the same master text box, yet with different values assigned. I tried assigning the first number "Current Page Number" and the second number "Next Page Number", but on text pages it only shows the current page number twice in that folio.
Anyone else run into this before? Is there a workaround besides unlocking each page from the master and manually setting page numbers?

just assign them all "Current Page Number"

otherwise, try 2 different text boxes with same style and place them next to eachother like it would be in 1 textbox

in reply to your note,
i thought you just had 1page in your document and didn't add a 2nd... nvm.. if it's a 48page file

The problem with that approach digdre is that the book has 48 pages, and so the | mark needs to shift and be centered between page numbers on each spread. I don't see how two different text boxes will help me there.

i ran into this problem before and wound up doing it manually.
if you just make the box with and set up " 1 | 2 " how you want typographically, and just copy into place on each page, it shouldnt take too long.
prob not the answer you were looking for...

^ That's what I figured, baseline. Would be a really nice update to see in CS5.
Times like this I wish I had an intern...
- agreed. It would also be nice to be able to set up numbered items over a series of boxes. Like specify #s 1-48, and how many #s appear in each box.baseline_shift
- and how many #s go into each box.baseline_shift

This one is fiddly but there is a workaround. Create your master page as a spread. On both left and right pages make a text box and link them. Go to your left hand page and insert a holder glyph for current page then your little bar seprator then next page glyph.
When you make your pages now both numbers should appear in the left pages only, just make sure you don't delete the empty linked text box on the right hand pages.

If u have trouble with it I can send you a template tomorrow, not in the offic at the mo, just let me know.

Right justify the number on the left in a text box. Left justify the number on the right in the other text box. Stick your line in between the two text boxes. Done.
- Or maybe not if you need to justify either number to a margin...duckofrubber

btw, try to use pathfinder on page 12-48, haha!

For anyone trying this out...
