Since iTunes doesn't really allow you to tag your songs and make comments about them I was wondering if any of you had any suggestions on software to help accomplish this goal.
I mean how is can you find the right song to add to a video you shot if you can't tag? You just can't remember 5K+ songs and the emotional feel from them without tags.

Get info on any track > Type comments > Tagged

huh? there's a ton of fields to tag into.

or add tags in the grouping column, create new smart playlist, group by: desired tag

^ monospaced - cumbersome?
I guess an even better way of asking is what do you guys who do a lot of video editing and commercials use to help remember what song would go good with which scene?

add any words you want to comments, do a search on that word

Cumbersome? You're looking for another application to help you! The feature you're looking for is already built in, and I can't imagine anything LESS cumbersome. Sorry.

I think grouping could do the trick.

Shimpo, you can always create a folder called comercials and have playlist inside called "action", emotional, Futuristic, Funny, etc
- < playlists. thats what i was thinking. comments, as stated above, are prob better though.baseline_shift

^ yeah I kind of have that now, I wanted something more detailed with multiple references for each song
- then type several words!monospaced_III
- I can't have a folder named: action, excitement, motivating, good rif, great solo, nice pianoshinpo
- no, but you can tag a song however you'd like, and then live search for that word whenever you wantmonospaced_III
- there's a description or also a long description fieldinkpink

if you want to skip the get info step, there are lots of scripts to edit tags... assign to a hotkey and you're laughing.

^ I agree with you about the comments, and I meant earlier that right clicking everyone of the over 5000 songs would be a cumbersome task.
It would be better if there was a third party software, something like quicksilver or punakea that I could tag my iTunes library with ease to make it less cumbersome.
That is more what I am asking, I know you can use the comments for tags.
- shinpo0
thanks inkpink that is what I was looking for.

Even if you had a 3rd party app, you'd still have to go through and tag each track individually, right? I honestly don't see your issue anymore.
- true, but with a lot less clicks and chance of carpal tunnelshinpo
- you can do it with NO clicks, btwmonospaced_III
- you do realize you can tag multiple tracks at the same time, right?monospaced_III

there are other mp3 tagging apps but they're mostly for PC... osx options suck.
but i agree with mono, if you're already listening in itunes why not tag in itunes.
- ie. mp3 rage: http://www.chaoticso…inkpink
- not intel compatible anymoreinkpink

there's also iTunify which is ok but it basically just performs dougscripts..
- shinpo0
yeah I think I am going to stick with a combo of the dougscripts and mono's suggestion about right clicking get info or using the keyboard shortcut
- cashface0
why would you want to tag your songs?
