Who here uses single quotes rather than ye olde double quotes????
I've been using ‘ and ’ for a while as space savers and they seem to be much more modern. {And the heathers wouldn't let me experiment with guillemets – « » }

I use the letter i instead of all of those fat vowels.

Single or double quotation marks denote either speech or a quotation. Neither style – single nor double – is an absolute rule, though double quotation marks are preferred in the United States, and both single and double quotation marks are used in the United Kingdom. A publisher’s, or even an author’s, style may take precedence over national general preferences.

There are no fixed rules esp. between US and other English speaking countries, like England.
So long as they are proper marks and not the incorrect feet and inch symbols people endlessly use...

I actually know the rules guys... was just seeing if people thought single quotes were more contemporary.

I use double quotes for quoting speech, but otherwise mainly single quotes...
A prime characteristic of Colani's design work is rounded, organic forms, which he terms 'biodynamic'. He is famous for avoiding straight lines in his work: "Everything on the microcosmic as well as the macroscopic plane is made up of curves... I can only obey the laws of nature."
This is standard, right?
- Sorry if this is feet and inches, could never see the difference on web...ribit

"..." for quotes. '...' for everything else.

single quotes are only used inside double quotes, e.g., "scarabin said, 'anything else is just retarded.'"
