Is this thing real? Or some viral thing I don't get?

Why would it not be real? My Sonicare toothbrush charges wirelessly, so I don't see why it can't apply to other products as well.
- so you got your old account back?baseline_shift
- I sure did! Just worked today.monospaced
- surely that sits into a charger though?Ranger
- yeah, but there are no connections, just proximity to charge...the SAME technologymonospaced

Yeah it's real, I've heard about a few different products that use those. Apparently there are some that work for laptops as well.

It says on the site that its technology can make walls and large surfaces into huge conductors that would work the same.
I ask if it is a viral as I thought it would've been quite a big thing and the ads on the underground/website remind me of that screen-tanning website.
There was an episode of the gadget show on a little while back which was talking about this stuff but said nobody was near cracking it yet.

$100 is way to high for a charger. I would rather just plug into the computer or wall for that price. Not to mention it's lack of products and bulkiness of the cases for the mobile devices.

The problem is that you STILL have to plug your device into something for it to interact with the PowerMat. While it's not a cabled plug, it is a "case" or snap-on element that most people won't want on all the time anyways.
The technology isn't that new anyways. My Sonicare toothbrush charges the same way. The cradle and brush have no metal connections and it begins charging (slowly) when it's near the cradle.
Maybe someday the devices will have built-in wireless charging units so that the mats can be used alone. But, I don't believe the solution is a 3rd party element.
- i have that brush, always tripped me outscarabin
- likewise on the brush. Ive often thought about why we havent seen it applied elsewherebaseline_shift
- I think because it's terribly slow. Apparently PowerMat actually increases the speed. Who knows...monospaced

This is actually very real. My company owns some intellectual property similar to this and there are some interesting stuff in the works. Imagine hanging a TV on a wall and you can just turn it on (no plugs no nothing!).

so instead of a cord i have to encase my iphone in a ridiculous large 'protector / charger' to use this.
how is this amazing? the case the iphone has to be in creates a circuit with the matt.
still, if you have heaps of devices it would b awesome. just seems like it's going to be awesome in 2 models time.
- they want new devices to all ready have it build in.Ravdyk
