so i have a client that is absolutely adamant about wanting papyrus used on a poster design - ive been looking for something similar in style but a bit cleaner and more readable - any suggestions ?

How much of it do they want? You could bust out some calligraphy skills if it's a display type (a headline, for instance) and give them something unique.
- They want a headline done in it - as well as a huge chunk of txttraut

check out Letterhead Fonts. They've made their reputation on fonts that look like Papyrus:

They want a heading of a section of the poster done - as well as a huge chunk of text.

hmm - well, they can't all be portfolio pieces.
sometimes fighting just isn't worth it, when a client will not trust you to do what they hired you to do.
choose your battles, try for something custom, but if they still insist on papyrus, deliver the project as soon as possible and move on to something that you can add to your portfolio.- took the words right out of my mouthmonospaced

thx guys - im just worried since im going to be working on a rebranding for them soon as well as other marketing materials i just dont want to set a president of just doing whatever they say and not adding in anything ive already shown them 2 versions and they decided yesterday papyrus what the answer within their office.

check http://dafont.com for a couple similar fonts and show them along with the papyrus one. they probably picked papyrus because they don't know there are similar ones out there that may be better for their application...

You could argue that it's simply not that legible and is not recommended for branding purposes moving forward.
- already did that - i guess they've used it previously on newsletters etc so they like it - im going to do a comp with that and one with something similar.traut

Version 1: Client product. Use Papyrus and print.
Version 2: Portfolio piece. Use a good font and print a comp yourself, if needed.- present them both, making extra sure that the papyrus version is really badmonospaced
- you do this by crapping on the papyrus proposal.Kiggen
- Make it look bad and that's the one the client will pick. Never show anything you don't want chosen, it'll bite ya.JonWilliams

do what the client wants, and do a version that you think would be better, or even two. Show them to the client and put more emphasis on what you think better, and explain why its better. If you dont explain your reasoning, the client will most likely not pick the better one.

obviously not the same but it has that rough edge of papyrus:
