all my programs just quit and will not start up again. clicking an icon initiates the startup page, file menu changes to illustrator, (or photoshop) then quits and gives me the 'send report to apple' log screen with options to reopen, close or report.
the cycle continues...
I've tried restarting, reinstalling, and unplugging all other peripherals all to no avail. nothing.
Help?
photoshop 7 and CS
illustrator 10 and CS
Indesign 2.0 and CS
iMac G5 PPC 2.1Ghz
OSX 10.4.11 updated
I own these programs and they are registered to me...
nothing but the mouse and keyboard plugged in...
Damn it!

tried restarting off the install dvd, remove app caches and using disk utility to repair permissions?
- acescence0
a couple things to try..
disable all but the system fonts
create a new user account and see if the apps start up there. if so, you know it's some pref thing that needs to be cleaned out

@airey - os is fine, not a glitch, only the adobe stuff has quit. I've installed and reinstalled. maybe I didn't get rid of the proper files, I guess I need a list of em! I'll look on the apple site first...then reinstall again.
@acescence - prefs and fonts, will try that too!I'll be back...
- use the install disks to delete.
reinstall and install updates before trying to open.Amicus

Try repairing permissions and doing the usual Disk Utility stuff.

is there a way to list only system fonts. I have some extra fonts that I use in this folder...
- camer0
I was using suitcase cause I have over 4000 fonts. but I don't use those or suitcase anymore, so I just loaded about twelve of the classics, (formata, universe, and others) fonts into the user library folder so they are all there when I load up illy or photoshop
I've just burnt them to disk and have removed them all...
so far nothing has worked tho... restarts, permissions, reinstall, deleting prefs, now fonts... what's next after that?- Utilities>>Disk Utilities>>Repair Permissions.FredMcWoozy

I don't get why all my adobe stuff won't run tho... not just illy, or photoshop, but everything...

try holding down command-option-shift when click the photoshop icon. then choose 'yes' for 'remove / rewrite photoshop prefs'.
if this works then we'll find the keys for the other apps. try it now and let us know!

what is the last thing loading on the application splash screen when it quits? does it do the same from a different user account? (make a new one log into it and test from there)
- Zenith_Kudos0
You can delete the preferences for each app by holding down command-option-shift when you launch them. You’ll get a dialog asking if you want to remove the prefs – click yes.
- camer0
@airey - okay, no the command-option-shift click doesn't work.
@Infirm - hard to tell what the last thing on the splash screen is... but I think it's palettes then initializing menus...
@FredMcWoozy - no, no updates, it's from a disc which I paid for and works on my other mac. I'm not sure I'm getting all the files when I try and delete the whole thing to reinstall it tho... can't find an uninstall list...
when you boot up photoshop is there a twain folder that appears and then disappears in the app folder? not sure if that is normal...weirder than all this crap...image ready boots up fine... from the same folder...?
I can post the crash log if anyone can read those?
thanks so far...
going to make a new user account but before I do that can you delete it easily after...? (never needed one)

try holding down command-option-shift when click the photoshop icon. then choose 'yes' for 'remove / rewrite photoshop prefs'.

personally i'd hold down the keys on the keyboard that are titled command and option and shift. notice that these are three (3) different keys, not one (1) key with the three (3) words on it. now, holding down the three (3) keys on the keyboard titled command and option and shift click on the icon of one (1) - not all - of the applications you're having trouble with. make sure to use the other hand that you're using to hold the three (3) previously mentioned keys down with (ir forgot to mention that you need to hold down all three (3) keys with one hand. if you have trouble get someone to help you or use a sticky tape). also, use the mouse.

so my newly created user account doesn't work.
so it's just photoshop and illustrator that's not working. guess I'll have to start to try and remove drivers till it works? I don't know... lame... all this started from wanting to do the 'c' in the 'design a typeface 2009' thread... facuck thisgoing to sleep on it. thanks for the help nonetheless . peace
- correction -photoshop still doesn't load in the new user account...camer

I want to delete and repair fonts on my machine. I STILL can't load photoshop or illustrator and I think the problem could be a corrupt font or fonts.
What can I delete and what needs to stay? I'm talking bare minimum.I've tried everthing so far to get these two programs working. Except reinstalling the OS which I don't really want to do.
Any ideas? Thanks.
Posting the crash log... coming up next.
Thanks so far
