just got this email
"Help stop your TV fees from increasing. CTV, Global and the CBC have recently asked the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to significantly increase TV taxes. The CRTC has been asked to do this by having Bell and the other operators pay more, which would result in higher fees for you.
We don’t think that’s right, you shouldn’t either. So please speak and have your say."

"The CRTC has told satellite and cable companies to hand over $100 million a year as of September 1, 2009. These fees are being passed on to you. This money is passing through something called the Local Programming Improvement Fund (LPIF) – straight to media giants like CTVglobemedia and Canwest Global, straight to the CBC.
No new local programming, no improvement to anything other than the bottom line of broadcasters."
word?

So how mush does it cost to watch the Brain Dead Box in canada?

Both sides are challenging each other, with full page newspaper ads and tv spots .... it's like a lame election for programming no one really watches anyways. Etalk daily and Entertainment Tonight Canada? no thanks.

i see what they did there

The only channels I watch are HBO, TMN and sports. This is fucking ridiculous, we already pay Rogers a retarded amount for a bunch of channels that most of us never watch, but in order to get the ones we do want, we've got to have the other crap.

@Andrew_D
That's the CRTC ... 50% of the content has to be Canadian for their plan to work. That's why they have to create all those retarded specialty stations. If you want to watch NBC, you have to get something like Travel + Escape, that plays shit like "Valerie Pringle has left the building." 4 times a day at different times ......
- Sounds like a group of cozy government workers trying to keep their cozy jobs to me. FUCK the CRTC.Andrew_D

My missus has tax exemption, I wonder if we can get outta this bullshit too.
- eieio0
yeah I hate it when big companies use new taxes as an excuse to cover up their bottom line.

No matter which "side" wins, we're going to end up paying more. I'm pretty sure Bell is playing both sides.
Well, if you actually pay for cable. I downloading almost everything.

I seriously dislike having to pay for channels in packages. I would like TeleQuebec but I would have to switch packages and then I wouldn't be able to get most anglophone channels I watch. I pay 60$ for TV a month, why can't they bend the rules and give me one more damn channel.

i canceled my cable all together. (still have some free channels)
qbn is the only entertainment i need.

i like how bell/rogers instantly jumped unto the customer's side as this all went down.
