Some friends and I have created a project based around home recording. Our aim is very simply to encourage people to record their own original album at home during the month of November this year.
It's not a competition, there is no prize, it's just an excuse and arbitrary deadline (30th Nov 2009) to get people who might have always wanted to record something to actually get on with it. The results will hopefully make it all worthwhile. Once finished you can upload your mp3s to a our site and they will be hosted for you. No need for any slick production or anything, can be as lo-fi as you want.
I bet there are a lot of closet musicians and recorders on here. Well this is a good excuse to make something and share it with other like-mided people.
We've already got about 40 people signed up to make albums, the more the merrier. Again, this isn't in any way commercial. just a personal project between 5 designers and social thinkers.
Check out the very lo-fi website for more info and to sign up:
http://hmtpng.com/We also have the obligatory twitter:
http://twitter.com/hmtpngand vimeo channel, where we'll have some hometapers vlogging their recording process:
http://www.vimeo.com/hometapingIf you already have some of your own music out there then post if up in this thread to inspire people, lets share our own recordings etc, and please pass this on to any budding musicians out there, or even people have never even considered recording.
If you have a blog it would be great if you pass the info on that way too, we want lots of participation. cheers! There'll be a big party at the end to share the results live too.
I created a new thread because the phrase Hometaping had sexual connotations to some dirty minded individuals. (you know who you are)

This sounds cool... have you heard of http://fawm.org/ ?

Sounds cool actually. My band is about to finish up our album but I've got plenty of my own stuff in progress at home. Might give this a go!

I would love to do this, I just started making music again, but I dont know if I can write an entire album in one month though...

Sounds like a rad idea. Does 1 song count as an album? A entire album is pretty ambitious, but I've had a couple of individual song sketches I've been wanting to record for a long time.
- Nevermind. Saw the 20 min. requirement. That's probably too steep for me right now.nocomply
- do it anyway, even if you don't get 20 mins you'll be farther than you were before
!!camer - try it anyway, 20mins is just a guidelineBaskerviIle

I'm going to try... it'll be techno tho!

woot, that's great there are people on here who want to sign up.
The more people involved the better, and lets face it, us designers will have the best covers.I've got tons of flyers, I'd pass them out for you to give to friends etc if this wasn't a virtual meeting place. But please do pass on the url: http://www.hmtpng.com to anyone you know who might wanna record some stuff, even if they don't think they have the ability.
and if anyone here can blog about it or tweet it even better. We may have some guys from TED (ie ted.com) getting involved too, gonna be cool
- BaskerviIle0
so, who's gonna have a go then?
- morilla0
I might have a go at this.
