sucks.
but the cop didn't give me a ticket... did i get lucky on that? also if i don't contact my insurance company will the other driver's insurance contact mine?
boooo such a bad day. i guess i had a good run for driving so much.

sorry to hear that, least you still alive

contact your insurance company
- 7point340
were you at fault? you should deal directly with the other insurance company if it was their fault otherwise your rates will go up. if it was your fault you should contact your insurance and have them sort it out.
i caused one minor accident, and it wasn't deemed negligent and since no one was injured i didn't get a ticket either.
- if she didn't get a ticket, it probably wasn't her fault, no?monospaced
- i caused one and received no ticket.7point34

if you swapped insurance info you should call.

^ Hope this idiot didn't ever get arrested/fingerprinted, cause he just committed two felonies in most states.
- From the letterhead, looks like this is in Australia.homeostatic
- Kudos. My threshold of observation is low on here. If there's no lolcube or lolcats, I won't get it.dMullins
- paper does not keep fingerprints too well. reason why you can't trace fingerprints in money.SoulFly
- money is fabric more than paperversion3

Also, if no one got a ticket, something is fishy.
In most instances, insurance companies cannot determine fault in an accident unless an officer arrived on scene to accurately detail the scene of the accident. If no ticket was served to anyone, then it also seems unlikely that any paperwork was filed. If you could give more detail on what actually happened/interactions with the officer, that could give me a better idea of what you're in for with the insurance companies.
- likely he filed a report and had a report number. a ticket has no bearing on the report7point34
- Not entirely true. It is typically the officer's duty to determine fault. In this case, the cop might have been in a hurry to get somewhere.dMullins
- somewhere, and thus decided to leave it up to the insurance companies to battle it out.dMullins
- Meaning, he's a shitty fucking cop.dMullins
- fault yes, but that does not automatically deem a citation is necessary.7point34
- case in point: i was involved in an accident that was deemed my fault and the cop explained that he wasn't going to write a ticket7point34
- ... ticket, because he didn't think it was reckless on my part, nor was anyone hurt.7point34
- i also received no point on my license though my insurance rates did go up slightly7point34
- Then you too got lucky. There is always fault in an accident, and in the US, fault = a way to fine for money.dMullins
- Regardless, I'm not really arguing your point, just trying to help the OP out.dMullins

based on your indepth information I'd venture a "yes" you are indeed lucky the cop didn't give you a ticket.

sorry i super busy and yea...if anyone is still here.
so i was at fault we went to the police station to file a report but no tickets were issued. he had minor barely any damage and my front bumper is pretty screwed up but i am not going to go through my insurance company to fix it. i am just worried..
a. i will be possibly getting a ticket in the mail
b. my insurance will go up- why didnt you ask the cop?baseline_shift
- You will recieve 3 tickets in the mail and your insurance will increase by 400%!utopian
- kiddingutopian
- baseline.. why didn't i ask the cop if i was getting a ticket????nicole_marie
- yeah. they know the law better than we do. Do you think he would be more likely to ticket you if you ask!?baseline_shift
- FredMcWoozy0
They will give tickets out once they determine who's fault it is through the accident report.
Once that is complete the insurance companies will fight it out.
- nicole_marie0
uggggghhhhhhhhh i am going off the grid
- Me too. I am just trying to figure out how to adapt solar power to run a laptop and other devices lolFredMcWoozy
- dMullins0
LOL, bullshit. You don't issues tickets post-humorously for car accidents.
- Milan0
wow, women are allowed to drive these days? what is this world coming to?
- fuck off i probably still have a better driving record then younicole_marie
- also thisd_rek
- maybe, but my bumper is intactMilan
- what on your mom's car?
nicole_marie - my mom stole my bumper!!??! shit!Milan
- d_rek0
I think it varies state-to-state. That being said i think most states would issue citations at the scene of the accident and not after-the-fact.
You need to get a copy of the accident report from the officer or police dept as well.
Also, you should have contacted your insurance company IMMEDIATELY. They are your worst enemy in most cases and the more evidence you have to back up your claim the better off you will be. You don't want to call them after the fact because they might try to weasel you out of service.
- I should say "not too long after the fact"d_rek
- You mean post-humorously, right!?!dMullins
- post-hummuslyd_rek
- i don't want them to fix my car though, is that all i would contact them for? i am having some else fix it but not till summer, bumpers get screwed up parking on the street in winter anywaysnicole_marie
- so that's who stole my bumper!Milan
- d_rek0
Also, if you have a good driving record (no major accidents or citations within the last 2 years) then your premiums should not go up substantially.
- this is literally my first accident, never had a ticket... hopefully won't get one stillnicole_marie

Don't call your insurance. In fact, don't call ever your insurance unless it is serious damage or your car is totaled. Also, for people wiith $250, $500 deductibles, raise it to $1,000 at least. Your monthly payment will go way down. Any damage under $1,500 (that is your fault) is not worth contacting your insurance about, because your rate will go up 30% for 2 years at least.
- SoulFly0
Yes, the other driver's insurance will contact your insurance, then your insurance will contact you to get the facts from you.
Also, you don't get a ticket if you didn't go through a red light or did reckless driving. When I hit someone from behind it was raining and very slippery, and they didn't give me a ticket, still my insurance had to pay for their bumper damages.

at least you're okay
