So time to update the portfolio, but I have been working at a publication house so I have loads of books to show this time. Usually for print I take pictures, but I now wondering if exporting spreads would be better to show more of the book, or both or maybe something amazing I haven't even thought of yet.
Any ideas or examples that anyone can think of before I get into this?

i've always liked the both approach

be selective. pick the best work.
for the a printer portfolio, i would pick spreads.
for the web, you can maybe show both cover and spreads.

Print work always looks better photographed imo, assuming the camera work is good of course. Be aware though that this is very time-consuming, whether you shoot the work yourself or find a photographer friend to do it.

im not a fan of flat art for printed pieces..photos in context are always more appealing to me, whatever you do keep it consistent of course.

I just tried to show some examples but Qoob isn't letting me link to specific pages of my site. But I tend to use a mix of flat pdfs on livesurface imagery (like the livinglife stuff) or flat pdfs with grads and highlights added in photoshop (like the Less stuff).

Yea I actually shot my stuff that is in my current portfolio -- , but that was also when I had a school studio set-up so this time it may be more difficult. But I still have the camera.
I think I might try a mix, thanks for that example Jersey that really helps.
