How to Optimize Flash Video

So I have created a video shot with an HD camera, edited the video in Final Cut Studio, Encoded/compressed the video with Adobe Media Encoder, imported the video into Flash CS4, then put the video online..... but the load time for the video is REALLY slow.
I know that I have seen high quality videos playback with a Flash player before.
Is there a trick to get the videos to play quicker?
Here are my file sizes:
.MOV- 286.8 MB
.F4V- 20.4 MB
.FLA- 586 KB
.SWF- 61 KB

Flash can support mov files with the h264 codec. This is what Vimeo uses for it's HD stuff. It's a good compromise between quality and filesize. Set it up for streaming, set a decent buffertime and you should be on your way.

drop the bitrate to around 900 to start with.

Where am I making these adjustments? In the Media Encoder?
- If you go the mov route, you don't need to involve Media Encoder. Export out of FC or use QT Pro to handle this.acrossthesea
- but what about the moov atom?noiseisthis

are you going to use cue points?
- No.... there really isn't a need. I just need the video to play online.hubb7designs

H264 , change bit rate to suit, use AAC for audio -32bit

are you setting these videos up as progressive download
or streaming
if you are hosting the videos, look into a streaming server worlds of difference in speed

if you have your own servers it is deff worth getting if you are going to be doing lots of FLVs

hosting is out there but gets somewhat pricey

How long is your video? 20mb doesn't seem large to me.
I just downloaded a 230mb file from Vimeo, not really unusually large for a HD video.
You can play with the presets in Media Encoder to see what the quality degradation will be (personally, I don't think low quality is acceptable anymore)

So I have been trying several different options with this video and still no luck....
My hosting service is through GoDaddy... do you think the issue could lye here?
I have my video converted to a .mp4 and I have uploaded the .swf, .fla and .mp4 all to the server.
When testing in Firefox or Safari with Dreamweaver, the video plays fine. But when I upload and enter the url... I get nothing.
What am I missing here to get a video to play in flash player?

well you don't need to upload the fla first of all... check your path if it's not playing at all, check to make sure it is actually finding the video file.

That's the problem.... how would I go about fixing this? I've tried multiple formats of the video, and it just doesn't seem to load up.
there is a piece of this puzzle that I'm just not getting.
- airey0
it not a format issue. it's simply not finding the file. check your activity in the browser as the page loads. the error shows the file and file url that isn't where it should be. put the file where it should be and you're away.

are you uploading the flv? i'm guessing you have only just twigged that the swf file does not embed the flv but actually loads it. it works locally because the fla is in your dreamweaver site folder but when testing live isn't online. i'm right aren't i. yes. yes i am.

@airey... I'm sorry to say, but you are incorrect. The FLA file is uploaded to the server... As a precaution, I have uploaded all the files that I have been working with in this video.
I will go through as see if I can locate where the discrepancy lies, cause I do believe that you are right in saying that it's not linking to the video somehow... I'm just not sure how or where.

After clicking the link, I am in agreement with airey. The FLV is not loading in at all.

I think I've discovered the problem.
FLV's don't work in 1995.
