yeah. Messed me up first time I visualized it. I was like what was that. I did a couple refreshes and I don't like it. No point.

It's not pointless in my book, they are restricting the screen to what I need the most if I actually go to the google homepage, rarely do I touch my mouse once I get there, and the field generally has focus on load. Interaction and navigation when you need it and not when you don't – besides, I use the built in google search 9/10...

Mark my words, fading in UI elements is destined to be the most overplayed fad of 2010. While Google may have done it for good reasons, now every hack web designer is going to have some shit fading in just because they can.
