Unlimited Data Plans?
Yeeaahh.... about that...

Good while it lasted. This affects people like me who use MyWi on the iphone with their computer.

Apple needs to allow any network with the technology to hook up a phone. This alone would relieve and balance the networks. One of the stupid moves Apple has made with an exclusive contract with AT&T.
- yeah, but AT&T was probably the only corp large enough to take the $550 subsidy hit up-front for the phone salesPoint5

"I think it's fair that carriers have the ability to protect themselves against the handful of users who degrade the experience for other people," she says. "So much of AT&T's brand equity and low churn numbers are associated with a high quality of service."
--they can go fuck themselves. They forced iPhone customers into an expensive 'unlimited' data plan, then want to make excuses that point to the consumer instead of point the finger at themselves for being ill-prepared and ill-equipped for the storm that was over the horizon.

this is something I liked about the plan- one fee and it's unlimited. everyone else limits you to MBs- which seems absurd.
if they want to go back to nickel & diming people to death- I'll switch back to an ancient cell phone. doesn't seem right to have your customers worrying about how much data they're consuming when they enjoy the technology so much.

out of curiosity, how much do you all use?
I just checked my bill for last month and I used 5925.35MB or almost 6 gigs.

You fuckers are lucky, it's pretty much always been metered in Australia, whether it's a home DSL connection or a data plan on a mobile. ISPs have tried it, copped an enormous bill from the international fibre carriers, and then stopped offering the plans.
I think it's always been obvious that if you provide unlimited access, it will get tapped for all it's worth, and AT&T and others have attempted to upgrade capacity to compensate, but as they provide more bandwidth, it just gets sucked up by the new smartphone users. Technical mechanisms like port blocking and proxies will always be foiled by the hackers out there who don't want to pay, so their only choice is to charge more for the service. Hurting your back pocket is going to make you think twice about downloading the beer app for your iphone.

It's Absolute HORSESHIT. Not Manure this is shit. My phone bills with the Iphone are well over double what my verizon phone bills were... But I truly hate verizon wirelesses customer service, those people are trolls and they know it.
