Has anyone else noticed the shaving industry is a huge racket?
They sell you these razors that last for maybe a week and then you have to buy a whole new one, and they keep raising the prices.
Granted, this ranks pretty low on my list of things I care about, but still

Use good shaving cream, e.g. Taylors of Bond St, a brush (get a cheap one, if you like it get an expensive one) and a decent razor. Wash well in warm water, shave twice. Nice morning ritual (with a cup of tea by the side of the sink for when I've finished). I've got a Fusion 3 but am going to a safety razor when the blades run out.

Back in the 80's I watched a science show on TV. They were showing metallic glass, a material which is a metal with a chaotic atom structure (like glass'). Samples looked like metallic measuring tape wchich tore like paper, but when sharpened, stayed sharp for very long. They said there was a patent for making razors out of it, they would be sharp for years. Reportedly, Gillette bought it so that nobody would ever use it.
I suppose there is plenty of materials of this kind, guess where the patents are...

I stopped shaving years ago, but trim every 3rd day or so.
No cream (or olive oil), aftershave nor lotion needed.Doesn't help OP much, but just want to cast an 'ayeh' on raf's post. Seems so wasteful to continue on their cycle.

P&G actually sell the razors at a loss, but make huge profits on refills. 2 Years on working on Gillette :(
I recently switched to King of Shaves razors, seem better and they dont sponsor twats.
+ King of shaves is an independent company and I like the guy who runs it.
For Lubbing up I like kiehls for men

... go swimming for an hour or so, then shave, it will be easy with any razor and hot water and any soap at all.....
or soak a towel with hot water, put it on your face and lie down for about 10 minutes, then shave... same thing.... old barber's trick

It's a good idea... olive oil would be fine; cheap + it's actually good for you. Few drops of teatree oil added would be even better. Good thing about oil is you can see what you're doing.

a few years ago i stopped using shaving cream altogether and it's worked out better for my skin. of course, this option requires a pretty sharp razor and mandatory moisturizing afterwards.
