anybody actually get decent jobs on freelance switch?
- breadlegz0
engine - Not tried getting jobs in Freelance Switch, but I do know that they've got some awesome advice on the forums.
Have you tried doing any SEO work on your site to get found for "freelance design (insert your area)" ? That might be one way to get started.
I know many people that get work all the time cos their sites get found.

simple and solid portfolio.
prepare to work obscene hours.
set a good workspace, ideally not at home.
it's all who you know, how you can sell it, not what you know.
set hours per project, DOUBLE it then quote.
adjust your diet to goreng noodles.
prepare to be poor or have cash in the bank.
pay your tax, do your returns.
have a backup plan and prepare to eat shit.

I have been inhouse freelancing part time for a company for nearly 7 years now. Is good to have a regular gig amongst other things. Two full-timers lost their jobs in the GFC but I'm still there. Having flexibility certainly gave me an advantage.

Leaving Philadelphia was unfortunately the best thing I did for my career. The job market there is poor-non-existent.
Think bigger cities - London/LA/NY/SanFran/Chicago etc...
I love the city, but they were unable to sustain me and all the other art school kids.

ethanfink - where are you now?
