Perhaps the funding for all the shitty TV shows could be put towards guerilla breeding. i.e. tag a couple of whales, make 'em have sex, and tell the Japanese that they're gay whales that will explode if they try to kill them. Population increases towards equilibrium. Everyone is happy.

Best solution is to farm whales like cattles.

whale war....
sigh... that show is sooo boring.... bunch of little hippies wearing skull symbol trying to be cool and all that. but really all that can do is throw trash at the other ship. from what i know, they successfully stopped one whale being dragged on the ship for the entire show. one whale. change tactic maybe? get into political? as far as i know the movie did more effect than that stupid show.

we need to stop fishing commercially and let the small populations bounce back or we'll have nothing.
Fisherman could be for hire. When you want a fish, you hire a fisherman to go get it by the line and he/she brings you a fish. You want it cleaned, you pay more. Astronomical prices of course so the fisherman can can shut the fcuk up about their lively-hood and it reduces the number who can eat fish. Fish replenish quickly (if the squids don't take over) and then in a few years when there's no clean air and most of the water is polluted, we can eat some delicious fish again. At this point it's unethical to eat fish. IMHO we can't not do anything.

Them saying it is for scientific purposes is bullshit. Also, the Japanese are not going to stop fishing for bluefin any time soon. The price of hon maguro just continues to go up the more rare they become.

"Sushi Spot Is Charged With Serving Whale Meat
LOS ANGELES — Federal prosecutors have filed a criminal complaint accusing a Japanese restaurant in Santa Monica and its chef of serving whale meat, a violation of the federal Marine Mammal Protection Act.
In an unusual operation that was sparked by the team behind the Oscar-winning documentary film about dolphin hunting, “The Cove” the restaurant, "the Hump", was investigated by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, the California Department of Fish and Game, and the federal Customs and Border Protection agency, which all concluded that the restaurant was serving endangered Sei whale as sushi."

My favorite part of the story is this:
"Mr. Bethune was put into custody by the crew, who held him for a month as the whaling ship returned to Japan."
I understand this guy is a 'terrorist' or something, but imprison by civilians for a month??? wtf?
