Bland and weak. The typography is poor and inconsistent, the section heads too prominent, the adverts in all the wrong places and... it's just amateur hour. Probably due as much, or more, to design by committee as anything else.
Between google, microsoft and ebay and I'm wondering about the future of web design. So many good solutions out there, and they can only come up with ugly and bland?

@Amicus it's because those sites are all "designed" by engineers unfortunately.
Because of thier prominence in day to day interweb use by the masses, they assume that this is the best look and feel to a site.
That's my guess anyway.

To be honest, I think the old extremely UGLY version was more special.
Just plain awful, but it somehow had more character.

this version looks more like spam at first glance... the older versions had more 1999 visual flavor, and therefore looked more "real company" to me....

"because those sites are all "designed" by engineers"
No way...you think we're talking about some two or three person startup here? I'm sure all these companies have a design team that spends months/ years coming up with this shit...so blame them if you blame anyone. But then again, it's got to be difficult to work within the existing crap branding of a lot of these sites.
- yeah, but they (esp google) have engineers and techies in controlling positions not marketers.Amicus
