Is it really possible that so many fires can start at the same time throughout all Australia?

Debunked Australian Bushfire Conspiracy Theories Were Pushed by Alex Jones, Murdoch Media

    https://www.desmogblog.com/2020/…

Victoria police said, “There is currently no intelligence to indicate that the fires in East Gippsland and the North East have been caused by arson or any other suspicious behaviour.”

Rural Fire Service spokesman, “The majority of the larger fires in the state [of New South Wales] were caused by lightning, and that arson was a relatively small source of ignition.”

Members of the New South Wales fire brigade have also dismissed the idea that the fires are due to efforts by the Green Party to stop fire management practices.

    Pittsburgh's high temperature breaks a 130-year-old record

^ that's fine. I wouldn't have particularly expected it to - there's been a drop in airline and passenger vehicle emissions, but industry and agriculture is 'essential' and basically unchanged, as too all the other large slices on the CO2 Emission pie chart.

What's great about this though is that there's a physical proof that a reduction in polluting activity has a direct and highly-visible positive effect on dense urban populations. Also too the ideas of new ways of working and living life.

Also, perhaps an evaluation of what's important - something like that post WW2 spirit, but all green and feely-feely.

The world is on lockdown. So where are all the carbon emissions coming from?

    https://grist.org/climate/the-wo…

In a sad irony, the decrease in air pollution may make it even hotter. Veerabhadran Ramanathan, a professor at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography at University of California, San Diego, explained that many polluting particles have a “masking” effect on global warming, reflecting the sun’s rays, canceling out some of the warming from greenhouse gas emissions. With that shield of pollution gone, Ramanathan said, “We could see an increase in warming.”

Appreciate the bluer skies and fresher air, while you can. But the emissions drop from the pandemic should be a warning, not a cause for celebration: a sign of how much further there is to go.

    • Oh for fuck’s sake, we can’t catch a break!Gnash
