In branding in general on a wide arrange of Brands of various medias , I see logos for Twitter and FB and no mention of the own .com , could it be a budget item as Fan Pages can be set up by 11 year olds?
What boggles me is that people would much rather have say 50k friends or followers and what not , but they won't back it up with anything to get results off that much traffic , it all goes to FB and ad networks and they see $0.00 , FB ad system charges you to promote a facebook page , kinda brilliant no in a money making scheme kind of way , but you can redirect to a website with an a ad affiliate (google ad sense) and cash in on the traffic , it is a tough sell out here

soon internet won't be unlimited usage anymore. It will be like cable with a few main orwellian sites and thats it.

I wish saying something is "dead' would die. A slight decrease in something's relevance doesn't make it "dead".

I think once people realize you can't say and do everything with a social network the personal site will come back, it'll just be more dynamic and personal.

I think this may be the case with artists, musicians, etc. - basically people with little to no budgets. I also think this is another example of ignorance in the market where it's our responsibility (or duty) as designers to explain to these people that they still need a personal site and should consider social as another channel. Again, if there's a cost effective way for people to have any type of web presence, they'll opt for the simplest, fastest, cheapest way to achieve that goal.

Tie it all together - create a 'lifestream' site.
Nauseating expression / concept .. but it could work.

I personally believe that personal sites are coming back. One of the main reasons for this is because people are starting to realize they don't own their own content anymore. They post stuff and if they start disliking the service or that site they have no way to take their own content away. There are also issues with privacy.
I am actually seeing an increasing number of personal sites again but in conjunction with Facebook or other social sites. What people do is open their own sites and then link to assets and other stuff on Facebook to it.
This way you keep the content and still communicate through Facebook.
- yeah this is what I was thinking. Social media is dead.Dodecahedron

Clients like that they can see how many fans they have or have gained. It's an immediate gratification. Your fan number is the new web counter.

Not only is "the personal website dead"... so is "design"!
