one of my coworker's Macbook pro starting displaying a grey folder, that blinked and the computer shut down,
now it won't recognise the disk even with disk utility,
is there any other way to access the disk, we tried mounting it but it doesn't work,
Target disk mode?
Find, and boot from, the diagnostics disc
using the boot up leopard/tiger install disk to access disk utility?
the utility boot doesn't see the disk
what is target disk mode?
Aww shit... that was the last thing I saw before mine bit it. Target disk even a full install was rejected.
hope you have better luck than I... and a better backup strategy.
Sounds like the disc has failed, gor corrupted or got disconnected, run hardware diagnostics. Might be worth trying the drive in another machine
yeah seconding the corrupt HD, flashing folder means it can't find an OS. Then if target disk mode doesn't work it probably means the disk is wrecked.
tried target disk, no go
tried Command + S key. no go,
I think the disc is dead, I may have to take a macbook pro appart,
I'm smiling, I always wanted to destroy something beautiful
might be a harddisc crash. there was a program from apple which gives a free replacement, so don't open it!
I had the same thing happen to my Macbook pro a couple of years ago, I needed a new harddive... Sorry dude:(
