One thing I remember from my chidhood is that the main marketing poly of food companies was to have mascots/characters that represented their brand, you could always collect their merchandise as well as get the food stuff:
KP Crisps had The KP Friars:
Tetley Tea had the little guys who brewed it up, The Tetley Tea Folk:
There were loads, but best of all was Weetabix cereal, they were promoted, essentially by a bunch of skin-heads!:
I'm going to try and bring back skin-heads as a marketing campaign.
