Anyone try this out yet? Looks nice and affordable.

Well, how does this differ from the (dv)? Seems too similar is a lot of ways. What's the disadvantage I am missing since it's $20+ less a month that the (dv).

very similar to http://www.linode.com/index.cfm and http://www.slicehost.com/

true. not for your point and clicker.

looks very nice. I have had a slicehost slice for a few years now, but this seems to be a little less expensive ($38 vs $30). And I am sure that control panel is more sophisticated than slicehost's

as much as i've had it out with media temple for random quirks, their control panels (for pack of a better/proper term) are heads and shoulders above the competition

When wouldn't Media Temple have a server problem?

I'm nearly done removing bits from my MediaTemple account. Really looking forward to closing up shop there. They were fantastic when I switched to them around 2004 / 2005 but now . . . Those up-times that they claim are totally false. And an extra $20 / month just to run Ruby? Or Python? Or MySQL container? Yikes.
I switched to Linode and although there's a learning curve I am very happy so far. http://linode.com
I've also heard excellent things about Slicehost. http://slicehost.com
- same here, I have many friends with horror stories from MT, I've been using linode for a while and rocksernexbcn

Cant believe people are still using mediatemple
All they ever get is bad press, their service isn't the best from personal experience and they are WAY overpriced for even their low-end hosting package.why do people still fall for this

I've had a (ve) server for 3 months now and couldn't be happier with it. The fastest and most stable VPS I've used to date.
If you're comfortable enough with a command line to configure a Linux box remotely, go for it. Otherwise, their (dv) package is worth a shot.

I'd go with Linode instead...

The Linode library is also a really good resource to set up your server, they have many step by step guides to install everything from a basic apache+php+mysql server to other more sophisticated setups.
