my point was that it is unavoidable to have your information stored by an organization. The good thing though, is that everything is voluntary and not forced upon anyone. This is my problem with people who complain about FB's (or any other voluntary service) privacy but they still continue to use it. If FB was obligatory for everyone to use then I would definitely have a problem.

    What right to privacy?

If you care about privacy, you shouldn't use Gmail either. Ever notice how ads come up based on what you're typing?

Now that I think of it, probably no site is safe.

seriously though, nowadays everybody is collecting data on you. your anonymity is an illusion.

    • So that makes it ok? Everyone else is jumping off a bridge so you should do it too?FredMcWoozy

605BC to 562BC Prophet of Ebakennezer named Sajaha

"Sajaha: First must come the bad - and even more so. For the evil spirit in human form itself is entering the earth adored by all missionaries of evil. He will wipe out in the souls of men, what the spirit of the deity had them previously placed will find a well prepared camp in order to feel comfortable, for the whole world circuit will be of his mind - only the lonely righteous are in the silence of their hour longer, which will also be. First, however, must be terribly evil romp on the earth world.

Everything that is bad, will be considered as good, all that is good is considered bad. People will recognize no God. Gluttony and fornication, betrayal and deceit are called their gods. They will drink blood and wallow in slime. Cheeky lies they call truth, and truth will not be in them.

Except in the lonely just waiting longingly at the Third Sargon, which they have secretly ordained their loyalty. From the trampled ground Chaldea will the first spark of the new rise up and fly to the sky, carried by rushing clouds, towards Northland. From this tortured land of liberators will rise, the Avenger: The Third Sargon!

And from both North and South will rise up and then the lonely righteous will be immense and lid like a storm the fire, which burns all evil everywhere, yes everywhere. As the king raised his hands to heaven. Nebuchadnezzar: Terrible they should be, the righteous and merciless! Sajaha: So will they! "

How did we get from Google to this?

  • orrinward0

Am I unique because I don't really care that people gather information off of me? So long as people aren't stealing money from my bank account or plotting to kill me I couldn't care less if Google knows I asphyxiate wank, keep a few kids locked in a cupboard and take class A drugs.

There isn't some guy at Google who has found out that you were watching gay porn while your wife was away preparing himself to blackmail you. Everything we do is being watched and monitored from a zoomed out level. The vast majority of people just aren't important or exciting enough to merit anyone zoning in and bringing our dirty habits to light.

    • The whole 'Big Brother' escalation in the media at the moment really frustrates me...orrinward
    • You're not unique - you're naive.lukus_W
    • naive is too kind of a word lukus,
but I'm glad you didn't want to destroy his feelings

You need to bear in mind that the right to privacy is an essential right - not because people deserve opportunity to evade prosecution, but because lack of privacy (or total access to a person’s thoughts and ideas) gives any unacceptable amount of power to the person or organisation which has access to it.

Any government or organisation - even when set up in a benign capacity - operates via interactions with regular people .. and these people have flaws like you or I do. Without a doubt, some will choose abuse power, and privacy laws are important because they limit the very worst possibilities from occurring.

If you don't care about your privacy, you are essentially saying you don't care about your freedom.

    yep, you are unique.
don't forget to let your door open too, while you're at it,

    cool story bro though,

    • ^georgesIII
    • For the last two years I have. In London I lived in a shred house where my door was the one without a lock. This year I'm living in loft space with no door at all.orrinward
    • living in a loft space with no door at all.orrinward
    • The only time I feel the need for privacy is when I'm having sex with my girlfriend..orrinward
    • ..and even then that's not a necessity. We got by fine in public at her old place of work.orrinward
  • orrinward0

I just prefer to live not worrying about my privacy and deal with a problem if it comes to me, and I think I'm a much happier person because I don't have this constant necessity to keep things to myself.

I do not see there being anything to do with my internet/phone usage that I think anyone would want to use against me. I'm laundering money, dealing drugs or running a child porn ring. The most 'personal' things that can be found through my electronic usage are naughty pictures of the missus, and if some unknown person manages to get hold of them somehow then I guess lucky him.

I'm not saying everyone should be like I am, but I really don't hold much close to my chest, and anything I do hold private I don't think other people would be interested in.

I recently posted my Facebook status as "Just crashed my car, fuck!" and within an hour I had a stranger message me on FB from a Solicitors saying he'd help me out on a no-win-no-fee deal and it looks like I'll be getting my car fixed and paid for despite being on the bare minimum third party deal, without running a claim through my insurance company.

I've only had good things come from the BB society.

i wish i had all that information. disposing of it is a horrible idea... well maybe not disposing of the web traffic... i mean they already knew that but all the wi-fi networks? awesome. i wonder if they were bluetooth wardriving as well collecting up millions of mobile MAC addresses
