New Smashing Pumpkins EP - Free MP3 Download!
Teargarden by Kaleidyscope is the eighth studio album by American
alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins, released as free MP3 downloads,
and as a series of physical limited-edition EPs, culminating in a single box
set release. The album will have 44 new songs, released one at a time, and
will also be issued as eleven four-song EPs.Announced by the frontman Billy Corgan on September 16, 2009, the concept
album, "a new kind of album [...] you can hear as it's being made," will be
released over the Internet, from the band's official website for free, one
song at a time. Each time a set of four tracks has been made available for
download, it will then be made available for purchase in two formats: a
physical limited edition EP on CD and digital format beginning with
Teargarden by Kaleidyscope Vol. 1: Songs for a Sailor, announced to to be
released on May 25, 2010 (available now!). All eleven records will culminate

I can see how Corgan was sucked in by this riff with its subtle key change via accidentals. (It's really in the "response" of the call and response. Or the call, call, call, response as it were.) And it even seems to be (relatively) new territory for him which is substantial considering his massive library of output.
But having said that . . . I just don't like it. I was frowning only a few seconds in and maintained that level of anti-enthusiasm throughout. And not in some 90's hip ironic-apathy sort of way. It has no heart. It may have some sound engineering. But it has no heart. It's disappointing considering the gems in their older catalog.
