So someone please explain to me:
I have the 3G now and will be getting this new phone pronto. Is it as simple as backing up my current phone, and transferring all apps, bookmarks, etc. to the new phone via iTunes?
- yeah, I got drunk at a stag and took my 3G for a swim. I just used the back up on my new one from iTunes and it loaded everything to the new phone.eegrek

we want feature X, like android, blackberry, et al have.
you don't need feature X, it's useless.
attention, apple introduces fabulous invention, feature X! it's the greatest thing ever!
rinse, repeat
- yeah but that feature is drenched in the shit of the android dev team so no one wants to touch itPIZZA
- are you speaking from experience here?acescence
- I think he's speaking in the name of lovePixter
- I see you've rinsed and repeated this comment with every release of apple producthotroddy
- if (featureX == "Flash") {

Anyone else feel like this phone really begs to not be contained in a case? I've got one for my 3G because the thing scratches pretty easily and just to keep it safer, but I wonder how slim the cases for it will be?
- i am making one for my company that is extremely thin. pretty stoked about it.spifflink

^i've never used a case for my iphone/ipods. never understood the concept. it's a beautiful device and that rubber shit that won't protect it from a fall hides it. and what good are no scratches if you can see the phone??
the new phone has the reinforced glass on both sides, so yeah, even less of a reason now.

I never got the whole 'i need a case to protect my lovely phone' shit. Unless your a builder or something.
What's the point of having a lovely phone only to cover it up with an ugly case. You preserve its beauty yet never get to fucking see its beauty.. ?
Its almost, although not quite, as bad as the retards that buy beautiful expensive sofas and then cover them in plastic wrap.
- Drop your precious iPhone on the concrete, let's see how it will hold up.
MADE IN CHINA®utopian - I dropped mine on cobblestones, just some little scratches.ribit
- what about a beautiful case? I make them! they are teh sexy.spifflink

you use a case to cover up the fact that you're 3 versions behind the times

Wait until you drop it on concrete then we will see...
- 1mm of rubber isn't going to save a fall. and how often do you drop your phone?SteveJobs

The cases will save it. The shock goes right through the metal and will shatter the glass (when I bought mine I was thinking, "hmmm, damn ugly and think, a shame..." then some woman interrupted and showed me her iPhone she had just dropped - totally shattered glass, like a broken window, I was sold).
I dropped mine down the stairs, bounced across the room and not a scratch.
That said, I have a first gen version and took the case off a while ago, so much nicer thinner, but I figure if I drop it I need a new one anyway ;-)

I hate all the cases, the phone look so much better without them.
However, after letting it fall (a few times) I decided to with an iBand, and only the iBand because it really is impact protection. scratches I don't give a fuck. Breaking it is another story.

I didn't get a case for my first one because I rarely drop my phone. My last one was a Slvr and I dropped it maybe twice in over three years. Then I dropped my iPhone several times in the first couple months (now that I was using my phone all the time, haha). Never broke the glass but messed up the silent switch. Ended up getting it replaced for free and decided to get a case then. Most of them I didn't like, but found one that I thought complimented it very nicely.
I really like the design of the new iPhone so I probably won't get a case for it whenever I end up getting the phone. I haven't dropped mine once I don't think since getting the case so hopefully it won't happen when I upgrade.

These kind of comments kinda pissed me off, I mean, I know you didn't do this on purpose you were just wondering, but how else am I going to be able to carry my phone on my belt without a case?

i'll pick up the clear film, apply it, then call it a day.

If i was eligible for an upgrade I would get it but my contract ends in 2011. Just in time for the 64GB iphone 4HD that records in 1080p, or whatever the next upgrade will be. As for the iOS4, pshhh. Welcome to the features the jailbreak community has had for months.
