seems to render thicker, is this just how they render on mac?

ran a test, light text renders thicker on a dark background.

it's probably due to Apple's subpixel font rendering (equivalent to ClearType on windows), Apple's algorithm goes for curve accuracy over sharpness. Where as Windows' goes for sharpness over accuracy. As a result, Apple's type tends to look thicker and fuzzier than cleartype. PC Safari users will see this in as well (Apple ported over their type engine).

windows users sick if Cleartype can try the GDI++ or GDI-- renderers.
I like it them.
