Sometimes clients take a few months.... they suddenly get distracted by something different, then they call you in a state of semi-panic and need you to do something immediately... and/or they hire somebody else who messes up then they call you in a panic....
in the past this happened to me after an interview... took me a while to discover that they hired somebody else who didn't do stuff well...

Don't take this the wrong way, but if you are afraid to show us your work then your work must be pretty weak.

^ good advice if you've got the past experience and portfolio to show. Skill tests are a totally valid request if you're green and don't really have the background to prove your abilities. This goes for lateral moves too. E.g. a print-focused designer with 10years experience who is moving to his first web job might expect a proficiency test of some sort.

If an organization asks you to do a "marketing challenge" or similar in order to possibly get the job, just walk out of the interview. (Possibly after urinating on their desk and person.)

Let's be serious here for a moment: I would only hire seriously hot chicks for any position I was looking to fill. Srsly.

Sometimes, a job might disappear. An account falls through, red tape, miscellaneous corporate bull shit.

"Sorry, you were supposed to have been contacted. We can't offer you the position at this time, but thanks for your well organized PSDs, they'll come in useful."
- SoulFly0
aliastime - companies will tell you they will be contacting you within the next 2 weeks of something, but the truth is they are not ready to make a decision. They will say that by default but they may not be ready to fill the position for maybe weeks to come.

The big thing was, I was kinda uncertain at the time if I wanted to leave my current position for this one, and I let them know that.
The owner saw through me, saw that I did their comps, and said to send him an email by that Monday to let him know if I was truly interested in the position.
I sent him an email that next day, Saturday morning, saying that I enjoyed meeting them and to please keep me in consideration.

For several months I went through this kind of stuff. It's easy to feel rejected, and following up is also hit-or-miss. In my desperation to get a job, I applied for just about anything and found myself competing with students (it was an all-time low) for jobs. I called one shop after a couple of weeks of not hearing from them, and they were extremely candid saying that I was actually overqualified for the position and that they felt I would be unsatisfied with the work. So...I guess my advice to you is to look at it another way. You might be too good for them.

did you send an email to the interviewer thanking them for the taking the time to meet with you and for you to get to know them? perhaps they didn't feel the interest was mutual.

OK, never mind. Called, left voice mail.
It's just odd to go that far and not even get a "Sorry we went in a different direction."
F'it it's friday, cheers!

Was going to email, but I'll try the call. Might have to wait until Monday. Suddenly got swamped at my other job.

Yeah. A friendly phone call works well. Email is a little easier to ignore, but I might follow up a missed call with an email.
