what's it like once you're past your mid 30's... how do you achieve it in a way that makes the mornings worthwhile and welcoming... how do you find the initial 7+ hours to make it to that next morning?

exercise and eat better. and stop drinking during weeknights. that's worked for me. until i got fit for my wedding last april i wasn't sleeping very well and felt like shit most mornings.
most important, stay away from cheesy crust pizza. not for the calories or anything, just because the fucking plastic they make it with seems to hunt and kill a decent sleep.

The sleep cycle alarm app for iphone works for some me too but your mileage may vary.
Start getting up earlier. At first it wrecks you, but if you are tired in the evenings you will find yourself going to bed earlier and sleeping better. Worked for me anyway.

i have no idea what sort of cheese goes in the crust but i haven't met anyone yet that has gotten a decent nights sleep and / or / weird dreams after ingesting the shit.

booze, plenty of it

that's easy. no food & drink past 19h, plenty of fresh air as possible and drink 2 liters of water every day, no cigs or hash, 18degrees celsius in the sleeping room, go to bed at exactly the same time every day and go up at the exact same time in the morning to get a heathy sleep-rhythm

Exercise is crucial (4-5 times a week), eating well, melatonin occasionally, drugs occasionally, consistent time to bed/time to rise (I sleep until the sun rises, regardless of what time I go to bed - work back from dawn)
sadly, beer is a killer of good sleep (for me at least), if I have more than 2-3. Vodka is king (no hangovers with Skyy or above, scientifically tested), wine is good too.

Read your post again Airey. It's not the cheese crust, it's the getting married that changed in your life.

I'm only 20 but used to struggle to get to sleep most nights. I'd end up getting around 5 or 6 hours a night. I now eat well, work out every day and don't drink at all. I'm sleeping really well now, and actually waking up feeling fresh.

bump.
How many hours of sleep is legit?
5, 6? 7 works well for me but I want to cut it down LOL- Just feeling like I'd like to do more during my day (if i could squeeze in another hour)bklyndroobeki
- I'd stick to 7 hrs. Works for me too. Cutting down just leads to physiological problems, feeling burned out and hating your job.VectorMasked

I wish the body didn't need to sleep at all. Whiles sleep is a nice traditional ritual and necessary part of life. It's be great to cram 8 hours of sleep into a one hour period. I've tried to forego sleep in the past, but its impossible. You can't deprive the body of sleep. However there must be a way to augment everything that sleep provides from muscle tissue repair and growth to memory consolidation into a one to two hour time span. Feeling refreshed and relaxed as if you've been back from the beach afterward a 2 hour super sleep.
