Client wants a job done in 2 days. Normally I would just bite the bullet and do the work but I've got other work thats going to have to sit idly by while I do this. How do you all come up with a rush rate? Based on percentage/job/client? Any advice appreciated!

I use 50% as a starting point and then consider other factors (in this case, working through the weekend would have me rounding up).

I raise prices up at least 200% - 300% for anything short notice, or work requiring weekend or night work. Holiday work gets priced even higher than that. Base it on VALUE not your rate. Most of the time clients don't really need it that fast anyway.
- +1, base it on the value of your time. and don't forget there will be revisions.ifeltdave

thanks for the insight...i think for this job 150% based on short notice + weekend is probably appropriate.

You really should have rush rates already stated in your contract. Once you do that you'll almost never have a rush again.

500% then add another 800% if they want changes.

Most people charge time + 1/2.

I charge double my hourly. No exceptions. Often it still doesn't seem worth it for the stress.
